How to Bead Jewelry

Dec 1st, 2012

Making your own jewelry can be fun and profitable. Learn how to bead jewelry with all the free projects and tutorials that will show you step-by-step what your hands and tools should be doing.

You won’t need any experience in making jewelry, only a few basic beading supplies and tools. One of the first questions beginner beaders ask is what tools they need. There are three beading tools which are essential for beading: round nose pliers, chain nose pliers and wire cutters.

The next question is where to start the learning process. The easiest way is to learn basic bead stringing using small crimp beads. You can use your chain nose pliers at first to compress the crimp beads, and invest in crimping pliers later. You can make an array of bracelets and necklaces using this basic bead stringing technique.

Memory wire bracelets and necklaces are also very popular amongst beginner beaders. All you need is bracelet or necklace memory wire, beads and round nose pliers to form a loop at the end of the wire.

Learning some wire wrapping techniques will be beneficial especially for making earrings. Round nose pliers are used to form wire loops. Most beaded earrings are made of beads strung on headpins. The top of the headpin is then formed into a loop, and attached to an earring wire. Well formed loops are essential for making earrings look more professional. Some basic wire wrapping techniques like forming a loop will be relatively easy to learn, while other techniques might take some time and practise.

There is no blueprint for learning how to bead, it all depends on what you would like to learn and achieve. The more you practise the easier it will become.
