Remove Tarnish from Costume Metal Jewelry

Based on its value, metal jewelry can simply be divided into two grades: precious metal jewelry and cheap metal jewelry. Precious metal jewelry refers to gold and platinum jewelry, while costume metal jewelry usually made of silver, bronze, brass, steel, copper, and other cheap metals. Though costume jewelry is not precious, it is still stand out for its old vintage style and affordable price.

At present, many fashionable people like to apply costume jewelry made of cheap metals to finish their personal style. However, after wear for a while, wearers will be likely to notice tarnish on the jewelry. It is really annoying, for the coat of tarnish will diminish the beauty of cheap jewelry. Well, tarnish is a thin corrosive gray coating that caused by chemical reaction, which often occurs on the surface of jewelry metals. Fortunately, it is quite easy to remove tarnish from metal jewelry.

Here, I would like to share a simple home remedy to tarnished metal jewelry. If you find heavy tarnish on your beloved metal jewelry, you can take up the following steps to remove tarnish and keep the metal piece in new-like condition.

Step 1: Get a bowl which is large enough to soak your metal jewelry. Meanwhile, place a sheet of aluminum foil on the bottom of the bowl.

Step 2: Place your tarnished metal jewelry in the bowl. And you should make sure the piece is evenly distributed.

Step 3: Prepare a bowl of boiled water. And then mix baking soda into the boiled water. Well, 1/2 cup of baking soda is enough. Don’t mix too much.

Step 4: Pour the boiled water mixed with baking soda over the jewelry. The tarnished metal jewelry should be covered with the boiled water completely.

Step 5: Soak the tarnished jewelry for several minutes, usually 3 to 5 minutes. The baking soda will work together with the aluminum to remove the tarnish.

Step 6: Rinse your metal jewelry with warm and clean water. At last, dry the piece with a soft and clean cloth.
